Rafael Valdez Mingramm

Mr. Valdez is a merchant banker specialized in China & Latin America, frequently commuting between Mexico City and Shanghai. He has advised Latin-American conglomerates, Chinese SOEs and private enterprises, primarily in the oil & gas, infrastructure and renewable energy sectors. 

At present, he is the Principal at Latin2China Holdings, an advisory firm based in Hong Kong, and Director for Latin America at Envision Energy International, managing the company's operations and business development efforts in the region, including a 10.5MW operation in Chile and a 1.5GW pipeline to be developed by 2018.

Mr. Valdez co-founded a few ventures in China, including SinoLatin Capital, the first China-based merchant bank focused on Latin America, laREDchina.com, a business / social network linking China with Ibero-America recently merged with IDB's platform ConnectAmericas.com, and the Mexican Chamber of Commerce in China (Mexcham), acting as its Founding Chairman. Prior to that, he worked at ChinaVest as Vicepresident for Latin America.

While living in New York, Mr. Valdez advised ProVentures, a private equity firm active in Southern Africa & South America, supported The Synergos Institute on sustainable development initiatives and collaborated with the Mission of Mexico at the United Nations. In Mexico, he was the head of international affairs at the Mexican Mint and chaired Fundación EDUCA México.

Mr. Valdez graduated from ITAM with a BA in Economics. As a Joint Japan-World Bank scholar he completed an MPA in Economic Policy at Columbia University and pursued an MBA at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS).
